SAMPE NORTH AMERICA COMMITTEES
Awards Committee
Mission: Reviews Award Nominations, approves as required, and administers Awards on behalf of SAMPE North America.
Chair: Eric Schmid, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Student Chapter; and Tim Langschwager, Great Lakes Chapter.
Members: Immediate Past President, Technical Director, up to three additional members, including one from the Past Presidents Committee at the Executive Vice President’s discretion.

Chapter Relations Committee
Mission: To provide a forum for chapters to discuss challenges and best practices of our successful chapters.
Chair: Eric Smith, SAMPE Carolinas Chapter
Members: All SAMPE North America Chapter Chairs and Vice Chairs.
Commitment: The committee meets via conference call four times per year.

Diversity and Inclusion
Mission: The SAMPE Diversity and Inclusion Committee will be responsible for ensuring continuous progress towards diversity and inclusion throughout SAMPE North America. The Committee will set priorities and provide guidance to SAMPE in the origination and implementation of diversity and inclusion activities and resources to meet the needs of Members. The Committee will actively encourage Members to participate in and contribute to these activities. In recommending new programs and products, the Committee will account for and seek to address the resource requirements for these activities.

Commitment:This committee meets via conference as needed.

Future Conferences and Events Committee
Mission:This committee ensures SAMPE provides quality educational programs that meet the needs of SAMPE members and the community we serve by (1) reviewing proposals to select qualified host conference committees tasked with developing conference programs; (2) monitor the progress of our conference planning committees; and, (3) evaluating the performance of the planning committee.
Chair: Ashley Tracey, Seattle Chapter.
Members: All SAMPE members are eligible to apply for this committee.
Commitment: This committee meets via conference call two times per year and in person at our two North American conferences. An additional 2-4 hours per quarter is spent on committee projects.
Information and Expertise Task Force
Mission: This task force helps ensure SAMPE remains a credible source for M & P information by reviewing and generating technical content on SAMPE’s website, YouTube, and MEGA Discussion Forum.
Chair: Tim Shaughnessy, SAMPE North America President.
Members: All SAMPE members are eligible to apply for this committee.
Commitment: This committee meets via conference call quarterly and at our two North American conferences. An additional 2-4 hours per quarter is spent on committee projects.

Public and Government Engagement Committee
Mission: Inform SAMPE members on public policy that impacts composites and advanced materials and policies that effect them. Educate our local elected officials and the US Congress on the importance of composites and advanced materials on the economy and national security.
Chair: LaNetra Tate, SAMPE Parliamentarian
Members: All SAMPE members with an interest in public policy are eligible to apply for this committee.
Commitment: This committee meets via conference call quarterly and at our two North American conferences. An additional 2-4 hours per quarter is spent on committee projects.

Rules and Parliamentarian Committee
Mission: Serves as an authority for interpreting and revising the Society’s Governing Documents.
Chair: LaNetra Tate, SAMPE North America Parliamentarian
Commitment: All SAMPE NA Members are eligible to apply for this committee via the chair and the Executive Vice President.

Student Additive Manufacturing Contest Committee
Mission: To execute the annual SAMPE Student Additive Manufacturing Contest. Tasks involved include updating contest rules to reflect developments in technology, securing software tools from sponsors, recruiting key volunteers, evaluating designs, and conducting the tests.
Chair: Harrison Scarborough, Seattle Chapter and Joe Vanherweg, Northern California Chapter
Commitment: This committee is responsible for our annual bridge contest. This committee meets via conference call and at our spring North American conference.

Student Bridge Building Contest Committee
Mission: To execute the annual SAMPE Student Bridge Competition. Tasks involved include updating contest rules to reflect developments in technology, securing bridge building materials from sponsors, recruiting key volunteers, evaluating bridge designs, and conducting the bridge tests.
Chair: Alison Lake, Midwest Chapter
Commitment: This committee is responsible for our annual bridge contest. This committee meets via conference call and at our spring North American conference.

Student Chapter Development Committee
Mission: Develop new student chapters and provide assistance to newly formed student chapters. Document best practices to distribute to Professional Chapters for creating new chapters at college and universities. Review dwindling student chapters or student chapters that have recently become ‘inactive’ to determine how to re-activate and provide appropriate assistance.

Commitment: This committee meets annually via teleconference six times per year.

Technical Excellence Committee
Mission: To assure that SAMPE NA maintains its position of technical leadership with respect to Material and Process (M&P) Engineering.
Chair: Ted Lynch, SAMPE Past President
Members: All SAMPE members are eligible to apply for this committee.
Commitment: This committee meets via conference call as needed and in person at our two North America conferences.

Emerging Technologies Sub-Committee (Supporting Technical Excellence)
Mission: To identify emerging technologies that will complement SAMPE areas of expertise, increase SAMPE’s reach, and attract new members and disciplines.

Members: All members are eligible to apply for this task force.

Mission: Provide SAMPE Young Professionals forums to network and develop their career paths.

Members: All SAMPE members that are 35-years old or younger are eligible to apply for this committee.
Commitment: This committee meets via conference call as needed and in person at our two North America conferences.

Mission: All financial investments and budgets are overseen by this committee
