Andrew Head

Andrew Head is the Founder and President of A&P Technology, a world leading manufacturer of braided products. Head graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA degree in Economics.

Since 1986, Head has led the braiding industry by designing braid machinery that far surpasses the capabilities of commercially available machinery.  Under Head’s direction, A&P has grown from 2 to a company of 210 people.   Head’s hard work and ingenuity has established A&P Technology as a leader within the Composites’ Industry and has established braid as the sought-after reinforcement for composite parts. Head’s technical and mechanical expertise enables the development of A&P Technology’s state-of-the-art braiding machinery, including the largest braider in the world, an 800 carrier machine.  A&P’s ability to design and build its own machinery gives them the flexibility to create highly engineered braided solutions in a short period of time.

A&P Technology began as an R&D division of Atkins & Pearce focused on braiding technical fibers. In 1995, A&P became a wholly owned subsidiary of Atkins & Pearce and in 1997, Head spun off and A&P became an independent company. A&P is currently comprised of five buildings, soon to be six, located in Cincinnati, Ohio.  A&P produces braid for a variety of aerospace, industrial, military and space applications. These applications include large volume programs such as frames for Boeing’s 787-8, fan cases for GE’s GEnx engines, and large radio dishes.

SAMPE provided A&P exposure to the composites industry and space to build its brand. The networking offered by SAMPE allowed A&P to connect with innovative leaders within the industry looking for material solutions. Realizing the importance of SAMPE to the composites industry as a whole, A&P quickly became a SAMPE advocate. Over the last 33 years, A&P has exhibited at SAMPE annually; sponsored SAMPE activities such as Make-It-And-Take-It and the annual bridge-building contest, in addition to annual sponsorship of tradeshow events; chaired technical conferences and presented at countless paper sessions; hosted local SAMPE organizations for vendor nights; and held industry-wide parties during SAMPE events. SAMPE plays an integral role in the growth of the composites industry and A&P is proud to be aligned with such an influential institution.
